According to Taiwanese media reports, leading wafer foundry manufacturer TSMC plans to raise prices again next year, but this price increase plan was rejected by Apple. It is understood that Apple is TSMC’s largest customer, accounting for more than 25% of its revenue.
It is worth mentioning that in addition to Apple, Nvidia, another major customer of TSMC, also intends to demand the same treatment. According to industry estimates, MediaTek, which is TSMC's third largest customer, is also expected to receive "exemption from price increases".
TSMC declined to comment on the aforementioned customer-related price news.
Previously, it was reported in the industry that TSMC will increase its price next year, and the rate will vary from 6% to 9% depending on the process. However, it was later reported that there was a negotiated revision. The increase will start from 3%, and the mature process will increase by 6%.
TrendForce, a market research firm, pointed out that TSMC's 5/4nm revenue increased by about 11.1% quarter-on-quarter, making it the process with the best revenue performance in the second quarter, as new product processes for HPC customers such as Nvidia, AMD, and Bitmain are gradually increasing in volume. Node; 7/6nm, despite the uncertain market outlook for mid-to-low-end smartphones and the revision of orders by customers, but still supported by mainstream products from HPC customers, revenue of this process node increased by 2.8% quarter-on-quarter.
According to industry analysts, advanced processes are one of the main sources of TSMC's revenue. In the second quarter's revenue structure, the 5nm process contributed 21%, and the 7nm process contributed 30%, which means that processes below 7nm contributed more than 50% to TSMC. %, once the price rise is blocked, it will have a considerable impact on TSMC.
