Intel recently entered into a series of agreements with IPValue Management Group, a patent management firm, to transfer nearly 5,000 patents to Tahoe Research Limited, IPValue's new company, which can license these patents to third-party businesses.

IPValue said the new agreement expands the company's original licensing arrangement with Intel and brings further patent portfolios under its remit.

It is reported that Intel's patent portfolio sold this time includes invention patents, covering application processors, logic devices, computing systems, memory and storage, connectivity and communications, packaging, semiconductor architecture and design, and semiconductor manufacturing.

Market participants believe that Intel's patent portfolio may contain older patents that have not expired but are no longer the latest technology. Intel entrusts IPValue to handle licensing, which can maximize patent revenue. IPValue has organized a team of experienced patent professionals to start licensing the Intel patent portfolio obtained by Tahoe.

It is reported that this is not the first time Intel has transferred a large amount of IP to another company. As early as 2019, Intel sold its smartphone baseband technology business to Apple, not only transferring patents, but also selling more than 2,000 employees and equipment to Apple for about $1 billion.
