India to welcome a homegrown memory chip company

　　According to the Economic Times of India, Sahasra Semiconductors has decided to set up a memory chip assembly and packaging and testing department in India, and plans to sell its own memory chips by December this year.

　　According to reports, Sahasra Semiconductors has invested 7.5 billion Indian rupees to build a chip factory. Amrit Manwani, chairman and managing director of Sahasra Semiconductors, said it will invest Rs 1.5 crore in the current financial year to establish an ATMP (Assembly, Test, Mark and Pack) factory in the Elcina manufacturing cluster in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan. It is expected to be operational by the end of this year. Once the market is established and revenue reaches Rs 25-3 billion, another Rs 600 crore will be invested.

　　Currently, the company has invested heavily in purchasing equipment and establishing the clean room facilities required for semiconductor packaging. Manwani expects the first set of equipment to leave Singapore this week and arrive at the plant by mid-August. Meanwhile, some of the equipment will arrive between August and September, with trial operation expected in November and commercial production expected by December this year.

　　According to Manwani, Sahasra Group used to sell storage products for a Japanese and a US tech company, but after they exited storage products in India, the company started selling products under its own brand. Manwani said that at present, there are growth opportunities in the Indian semiconductor market, so he decided to get involved in the field of semiconductor packaging.

　　Manwani further said that locally manufactured storage products will be favored by the company for security purposes, as storage products are widely used in data servers, high-end industrial PCs, and communication equipment.
