Recently, the Semiconductor Manufacturing Equipment Association of Japan (SEAJ) announced a forecast report that in 2022 (April 2022-March 2023), the sales of semiconductor equipment in Japan will exceed 4 trillion yen for the first time, reaching 4 trillion and 28.3 billion yen. A year-on-year increase of 17%, a record high for three consecutive years.

The report pointed out that although inflation and other factors have impacted personal consumption expenditures, coupled with supply chain chaos and parts shortages, but due to large logic/wafer foundries and memory chip factories maintaining positive investment intentions, Japan's semiconductor equipment in 2022 will be reduced. Sales were revised up to 402.83 million yen from a previous estimate of 3.55 trillion yen.

It should be noted that SEAJ has previously revised its 2022 Japanese semiconductor equipment sales forecast in January this year, and this is the second increase this year.

According to SEAJ data, Japan's actual sales in 2021 will increase by 44.4% year-on-year to 3.443 trillion yen. It is expected to continue to grow after fiscal 2022. In fiscal 2023, it will increase by 5% year-on-year to 4.2297 trillion yen, and in 2024, it will increase by 5% year-on-year to 4.4412 trillion yen.
